If Fairfield Prep senior attackmen Kevin Brown and Tim Edmonds look as if they have some chemistry, there's a reason for that.

The Jesuits (10-4, 8-0 SCC) maintained a 5-1 lead for much of the second quarter before Brown scored two goals in 11 seconds.

Fairfield Prep remained unbeaten in nine games against Connecticut competition.

The Jesuits face Shelton on Wednesday and finish the regular season at No. 10 Guilford, which beat Xavier 7-6 on Friday..

Xavier (12-3, 7-2), a program on the rise, tied the game at 1 at 2:19 of the first quarter, with sophomore Wesley Reid answering Brown's first goal.

Scoring: X--Wesley Reid (1 goal), Parker Reid (1g), Greg Onofri (1g), Bob Coleman (1 assist); FP--Tim Edmonds (3g, 5a), Kevin Brown (6g), David White (1g, 3a), Austin Sims (4a), John Edmonds (2g, 1a), Cam Harris (2g), Burke Smith (1g), Colin Smalkais (1g), Joe McBride (1g); Goalies: X--Matt Gajowiak (11 saves); FP--Connor Henry (6), Logan Cotter (4); Shots: X--20; FP--34

Playing baseball and other team sports offers kids a chance for healthy exercise; it can build self esteem and provide the unique experience of participating on a team.

Play Strong- Play Safe, a free workshop designed to raise awareness about the potential for injuries from throwing sports and to give kids, parents, coaches and trainers hands-on instruction on safe conditioning and strengthening techniques to prevent injury.

Playing team sports builds skills and relationships that go well beyond the ball field, but when injuries take kids out of play and away from the team, there can be both physical and psychological repercussions.

With the recent opening of the town Skatepark at Roger Sherman Baldwin Park, the official arrival of spring and the approach of warmer weather, local skateboard enthusiasts are showing up at his Capsule Boardshop in Riverside to gear up for a new season of ollies, fakies and kickflips.

The wheel replacement of Berlic's board begins with the removal of its trucks -- the axles that hold the wheels.

Next, comes the application of grip tape, an adhesive tape with a sandpaper surface that provides traction for skateboarders.

Garan peels off the backing of the tape to expose the adhesive, presses it over the entire surface of the board, and then proceeds to press out the air bubbles.

Swim fan: YWCA Greenwich Dolphin Meghan Lynch loves her sport -- and leaving the competition in her wake

Oh, the shark, babe, has such teeth, dear

[...] it shows them, pearly white . . .

Meghan Lynch is a shark in the swimming pool -- and she likes nothing better than gobbling up opponents.

[...] she swims fast -- really fast -- so fast that the 9-year-old Lynch, a member of the YWCA Greenwich Dolphins swim team, recently took first place in the 9-year-old girls competition at the Eastern Region, USA Swimming-sponsored IM Xtreme Games held at the University of Maryland.

[...] her times in the 100-yard breast stroke and the 200-yard individual medley were the second fastest in the nation in the 9-year-old age group this year.

"Meghan has a very unique ability at a very young age to focus, listen and apply directions and adjustments in technique and to execute them over sustained distances," says Cavataro, who also serves as head coach of the men's and women's swimming and diving teams at Iona College in New Rochelle, N.Y.

"Meghan has a tremendous amount of focus and attention to detail," he says.

What is exciting is that Meghan is always looking for a challenge in any event in distance and just wants to go better than she did the last time she raced, says Cavataro.

Traveling to big USA Swim meets.

Tiger changing her stripes: CSH soccer star Jenna Hascher signs National Letter of Intent with Northwestern University Wildcats

Earlier this week, after years of hard work and sacrifice, the Convent of the Sacred Heart senior goalie came one step closer to that dream when she signed a National Letter of Intent with Northwestern University.

Greenwich Citizen caught up with Hascher and asked her how she ended up at Northwestern, what she will bring to the Wildcats and what she will miss the most about her time at Convent of the Sacred Heart.

What does it mean to you to be able to play Div. 1 soccer in the Big 10!?

The Northwestern soccer field sits right on Lake Michigan and when the wind blows, I will need every ounce of that leg strength to cut through the winds.

Set pieces, such as corners and free kicks, can be very dangerous at this level of play and I have to be able to fully control the 18 yards I am responsible for.
