Sherr has integrity and experience needed for BOE challenges
I have followed the Greenwich Board of Education through its revolving door of changes in curriculum, membership, leadership and superintendents, and I wholeheartedly agree that issues still remain.
However, I disagree that "a fresh perspective" is what is required to assess inadequacies and demand accountability. What we don't need is yet another BOE representative facing a learning curve while student achievement and parent satisfaction continue to decline.
The current BOE "revolving door model" of leadership has led nowhere but in a circle, since problems from administrations and years past continue to be problems today. The vexing and exigent issues the current BOE is tasked with remedying require the experience of a board member who has repeatedly demonstrated his commitment, character and integrity, one who doesn't vote for what is most popular, or easy, but rather votes for what he believes to be right for the children and Town of Greenwich. This person is Peter Sherr.
Because he voted his conscience and "failed to toe the party line," this past year Peter was publicly "punished" by the Town Republican Committee. They refused to offer his name as a BOE candidate in the upcoming November election. In a very short period of time Peter has garnered the unquestionable support of registered Republican town residents (via petition) and has thus earned a spot on the ballot in November.
I urge you to join me in supporting Peter Sherr's candidacy for the Board of Education. He is well versed in the issues and processes and determined to raise the level of accountability, integrity and effectiveness of our schools and the BOE. Over the course of his tenure Peter has shown he won't be forced to back down from doing what is right for our children.
Hopefully, in November, Peter will be joined by other like-minded representatives so that the BOE might actually begin to solve some problems. That's what our community sorely needs.
