First, a thin layer of ice, less than half-an-inch is laid onto the concrete floor as a base. Next, workers coat the ice with three-layers of pure-white paint to give the ice its clean color before using pump-sprayers and watering buckets to cover the paint in another layer of ice. Following that, the lines and faceoff circles, shown here, are painted in before being sealed in the same way. Once the ice is deemed ready and the lines sealed, the Zamboni is brought out to build the ice up the final one-and-a-half to two inches to make it ready for the season.
