On Thursday, Oct. 4, at 7 p.m., the Lyme Research Alliance will host a support group at Greenwich Town Hall featuring guest speaker Bob Giguere, regional representative with IGeneX Labaratories, Palo Alto, Calif., who will address laboratory testing for Lyme disease and related infections such as Ehrlichia and Babesia.

His discussion will include the various techniques used in laboratory medicine, as well as the shortcomings of these techniques when applied to Lyme disease.

He will explain why testing procedures can be problematic. Testing for Lyme disease is complex and different labs sometimes handle the procedure differently -- and results are often not accurate. IGeneX is the medical laboratory used by most physicians who diagnose and treat Lyme disease and related tick-borne infections.

Giguere's presentation has been described as "combining good science with good humor to help his audience understand the challenges in dealing with Lyme disease."

Attendees are encouraged to ask questions.

The support group is free of charge. Seating is limited.

All LRA support group meetings are held in the Evaristo Room, third floor at Greenwich Town Hall, 101 Field Point Avenue. For more information, call Lyme Research Alliance at 203-969-1333.
