KENT -- The downed trees and utility wires that closed Route 7 in both directions in Kent by Cobble Lane for seven hours has been cleared, according to the state Department of Transportation.

The state DOT first reported that downed utility wires and trees had closed Route 7 around 2 a.m. this morning. At the time, crews estimated the time needed to clear the debris at 10 hours.

A significant thunderstorm ripped through the region last night, cutting power service to many. Connecticut Light and Power is still working to restory power to households throughout the state this morning.
