The Old Greenwich Riverside Community Center (OGRCC) Thunder Red U11 baseball team won the league championship of the Westchester Baseball Association (WBA) recently with a convincing 9 - 0 victory over the South Riverdale Animals.
The Thunder team was led by Cole Hartley's four innings of one-hit pitching and his first inning two-run home run. Danny Hupal and Mark Sunoo each pitched a scoreless inning to complete the league title for the Thunder. Charlie Zeeve, Matt Circelli and Henry Saleeby were the hitting stars for the team.
On Wednesday, the Thunder won the semi-final game 12-4 over New Rochelle's Tigers Sports Club behind the pitching of Hartley and Sunoo.
The game was much closer than the score indicates. With the Thunder trailing 4-3 in the fifth inning, Cole Hartley stole home to tie the game. Jimmy Doucette then singled to drive in the go-ahead run. Danny Hupal, Charlie Zeeve, Brandon Chow and Nick Glass all had key hits in the nine-run inning that cemented the game for the Thunder.
The team went 11-2 in the regular season to win the Gil Hodges U11 American League regular season title and won three playoff games by a combined score of 32-5 to roll to the championship.
