She received a bachelor's degree in nursing from Cornell University and a master's degree from Columbia University.
She worked at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center for 31 years as a nurse. With a tenure of 15 years, she was the longest-serving chairman of the Department of Nursing and was the first recipient of the Enid A. Haupt Chair of Nursing.
Ms. Mazzola is survived by a brother, Vincent of Baltimore; two sisters, Nina of Torrington and Maria Mazzola-Decker of LaJolla, Calif.; three nieces; and her beloved friend, Donna Sammarino of Kent.
Her family and friends say Ms. Mazzola left behind a legacy of true generosity of spirit and person.
A special remembrance service will be held at a later date.
The Lillis Funeral Home of New Milford is in charge of arrangements.
