KODA unites with renewable oil firm
KODA Distribution Group and Solazyme, a renewable oil and bioproducts company, announced they have entered into a distribution partnership in the lubricants and metal working fluids industry. Solazyme's Renewable Tailored High Oleic Algal Oil will be represented in the U.S. and Canada by Monson, a KODA Distribution Group company. Based in Stamford, KODA deals in specialty chemical distribution and is comprised of seven regional companies in the United States: Ribelin Sales in the Southwest and Southeast; GMZ in the Ohio Valley/Midwest; P.T. Hutchins in the West; E.W. Kaufmann in the Northeast/Mid-Atlantic as well as: Monson Companies, ADAPCO and Red River Specialties. Headquartered in San Francisco, Solazyme, is a renewable-oil and bioproducts company that converts low-cost plant-based sugars into tailored oils and microalgal food ingredients.
Cultural Alliance receives two grants
The Danbury-based Cultural Alliance of Western Connecticut has received two grants for 2014 for its ongoing services and efforts on behalf of a 10-town region. The Connecticut Office of the Arts, Department of Economic and Community Development has awarded $30,855 to the Cultural Alliance, as a Designated Regional Service Organization, to support the state's creative economy and provide cultural leadership to a broad diversity of constituents. An award of $15,000 from the Fairfield County Community Foundation will provide general operating support. Funding will help strengthen infrastructure, as well as enable the Cultural Alliance to continue services such as professional development, coordinated marketing and promotional initiatives. The Cultural Alliance's efforts are geared toward the more than 400 cultural resources in the 10-town region and for the benefit of the larger community. It is cultural hub for Bethel, Bridgewater, Brookfield, Danbury, Newtown, New Fairfield, New Milford, Redding, Ridgefield and Sherman. The creative economy accounts for approximately 10 percent of all jobs in the region, according to the organization.
Parallel Post marks one year in business
Parallel Post, the restaurant at the Marriott Trumbull Merritt Parkway, recently marked its one-year anniversary. To celebrate, the hotel and restaurant are offering a special package -- valid Thursdays through Sundays for 11 months, through Dec. 20 -- that includes "deluxe accommodations" at the hotel and breakfast for two for $179 to $209 per night. The Trumbull hotel is located at 180 Hawley Lane and has 324 rooms. The restaurant features modern American cuisine with a Northeast flair. It uses seasonal and local ingredients prepared with contemporary, healthy techniques.
