Joseph W. Squires, age 74, of Morris, formerly of New Milford, died on Saturday evening at the New Milford Hospital. He was the husband of Frances (Koehler) Squires. Mr. Squires was born December 11, 1929 in New Milford, the son of the late Charles A. and Millie (Thomas) Squires. Raised and educated in New Milford, he was a life long resident until moving to Morris one and a half years ago. Mr. Squires was employed for 30 years as a mechanic with the Connecticut Light and Power Co., retiring in 1985. He was a member of the Water Witch Volunteer Fire Department, Company #2, New Milford, with over 45 years of service. In addition to his wife of 26 years, Mr. Squires is survived by one son, Daryl Squires, of Warren; six daughters: Sheryl Skroski, of North Haven; Crystal Nava, of Diamond Bar, Calif.; Melinda Wescott, of Riverside, Calif.; Marci Pavain, of Sylvania, Ohio; Linda Easterbrook, of Bantam; Patricia Humiston, of Raleigh, N.C.; two brothers: Raymond Squires, of Southbury; and Richard Squires, of New Milford; one sister, Doris Anderson, of New Milford; seventeen grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. A Memorial service will be held on Tuesday, March 23rd at the Colonial Funeral Home, 87 Park Lane Rd., New Milford at 7 p.m. At the family's request, please make memorial contributions in lieu of flowers to the Water Witch Hose Co.
