She graduated from Danbury Normal School (now Western Connecticut State University) and started her teaching career in a one-room schoolhouse in Plymouth. She taught elementary school for many years in Newtown and Bethel.
She loved writing poetry, had a great sense of humor and enjoyed snowmobiling at her second home in Otis, Mass.
Besides her husband, Mrs. Thayer is survived by a son, Thomas and his wife Pat of New Fairfield; five grandchildren, Aaron and his wife Jackie of New Milford, Karl and his wife Cindy of New Milford, Daryl DiBetta and his wife Lisa of Rock Hill, N.Y., Candis Parsons and her husband Stu of Woodbourne, N.Y., and Darlene DiBetta of New York; and four great-grandchildren, Barbara and Jessica, Lea DiBetta and David Parsons. She was predeceased by a daughter, Lea Jane DiBetta, and a son-in-law, Joseph DiBetta.
The Green Funeral Home of Danbury was in charge of arrangements.
