The Breast Cancer Alliance recently held its first annual Pink Party at The Loading Dock in Stamford. It was a festive evening of drinks, dinner and dancing to help raise awareness of, and funding for, the Breast Cancer Alliance (BCA) in their mission to find a cure. Kicking off the evening was a proclamation from Greenwich First Selectman Peter Tesei declaring June 16 Men in Pink Day.
More than 250 people, all in pink attire, danced to the Motown sounds of "Liquid Pleasure" and supported the BCA with their attendance. Funds raised at the event will augment the support the BCA provides to institutions within a 200-mile radius of Greenwich.
The "Men in Pink" committee is comprised of more than 125 men in the greater Greenwich community who are committed to taking an active role in advancing breast cancer prevention and treatment. The committee, chaired by Campbell Gerrish, Andrew Mitchell-Namdar and William Sinclair, created and planned the entire event.
"Andrew, William and I feel honored to be associated with the Breast Cancer Alliance," says Gerrish, "and we believe it is vital to have men involved in the breast cancer cause . . . because breast cancer affects more than just women. The Men in Pink committee hopes to raise year-round awareness about the need for the women in our lives to stay healthy."
Founded in Greenwich in 1996, the Breast Cancer Alliance is now the fourth largest private non-corporate organization providing funds for breast cancer research in the United States. The money raised by the Alliance funds research, education, outreach and breast surgery fellowship programs. For more information, call 203-861-0014 or visit www.breastcanceralliance.org.
