Coach: Ron Van Belle
How long have you been coaching?
This is the sixth season at Brunswick for me and my assistant coach, Mike Kennedy.
Who are the key players you lost from last year's team?
Who is returning to the squad this year?
Tommy Dwyer, senior captain and strong power forward (committed to play hockey at D1 Holy Cross next year); Bo Stafford, senior captain and leading scorer from last year (committed to play lacrosse at Georgetown next year); Connor Koorbusch, senior captain and leader of our defense; Vincent Baulne-Charland, senior, and an exchange student from Quebec, strong d-man; Luke Esposito, junior and first line center; John Baker, junior and d-man transfer from Darien High School; and Gryphon Richardson, junior and starting goalie.
Who needs to have an impact year in order for you to be successful?
We need Gryphon to be strong in net, and we have a good core of experienced defensemen that we need to play to their potential; if we play strong in the defensive zone, we will be in good shape because we have a lot of talent "up front" to score goals.
What are your team's strengths and weaknesses?
Our strength is the offensive power of our first two lines and the consistently strong play of Gryphon in net -- he gives us the chance to win every game.
What are your key games?
The goal is to win every game we are "supposed" to win and to steal a couple of games from teams that are ranked higher than us. Games we have circled on our schedule are Choate, Kent, Salisbury and Pomfret.
What is your overall season outlook?
Last year we went 17-9-2, which was respectable, but we did not make any post-season tournaments, because our strength of schedule was too weak. We have improved our schedule considerably, but with that comes the challenge of playing at a bit higher level than we have in previous seasons.
The good news is this is one of the most talented hockey teams Brunswick has ever seen, so we have the players in place to be competitive in New England D1 Prep Hockey!
