He was raised on his family's farm in Shelton.
In his earlier years, Mr. Bennett was employed as a millwright for the Carpenters Union. A resident of Newtown since 1962, Mr. Bennett was the owner of Poverty Hollow Antiques until his retirement in 1998.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Bennett is survived by two sons, Fred M. Bennett of Holden, Mass., and David Bennett of Bridgewater; and six grandchildren.
The Honan Funeral Home in Newtown was in charge of the arrangements.
