The life of June Einhorn of Greenwich, an accomplished painter and lover of music, will be celebrated next week with a concert at St. Bede's Chapel, and later by a special exhibit of her paintings at Greenwich Library's Flinn Gallery from March 24 - April 25. Einhorn was killed at the age of 61 during last year's fierce windstorm on March 12 while walking near her backcountry home.
The special concert, "The Genius of Wolfgang Amadé Mozart," featuring internationally-acclaimed South African fortepianist, Kristian Bezuidenhout, will be dedicated to Einhorn, a South African native. The concert, the first of the 2011 season of performances at St. Bede's Chapel presented by Palladium Musicum, Inc. is being held in partnership with the Boston Early Music Festival.
The evening will also feature a pre-concert talk given by the pianist, who has been described as a "prince of the fortepiano" by The New York Times.
"June Einhorn: A Retrospective," on view at the Flinn Gallery from March 24 - April 25, will feature 70 of the former Flinn Gallery member's paintings, including several works inspired by her trips to Cambodia and other Asian countries.
Linda Butler, the curator of the Flinn Gallery exhibit, had urged Einhorn to apply for a show to exhibit her art. "She'd won awards for her art work; her art work is very strong. She's a very eclectic artist," said Butler, recalling the interesting life Einhorn had living nearly two years in Singapore, when her husband, an advertising executive, was posted there. "June was deeply influenced by spending 18 months in Asia," her husband has written, "with visits to Cambodia, Vietnam and China. Some of her most moving paintings are based on children's wall paintings in Cambodia."
The couple moved to Greenwich from their native South Africa in 1982.
