Mrs. Surovy first worked as a dental assistant for Dr. Kubisek. Later she became a bookkeeper working first for John Chuvala, CPA, and then for Gene McRedmond, CPA, retiring after over 20 years of bookkeeping.
She was an active member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church, serving as past president of the Ladies Aid and the Immanuel Lutheran School Guild. She assisted with the fund-raising for the building of the Immanuel Lutheran School and for many years volunteered in the care of Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery. She was also an active campaigner for the Diabetes Association.
Mrs. Surovy is survived by three daughters, Dorothea (Thea) Senior and her husband Jack of Danbury, Adele Tarlton and her husband Tary of Danbury, and Ellen Silkman and her husband Claude of New Fairfield; a son, Samuel and his wife Jeri of Danbury; six grandsons, Lars Wallin and his wife Darlene of New Milford, Les Wallin and his wife Hayley of Danbury, Lance Wallin and his wife Rebecca of Danbury, Samuel Jr. of Danbury, Justin Silkman of New Milford and John Senior and his wife Sheryl of Cheshire; five granddaughters, Laura McGoff and her husband Michael of South Boston, Mass., Linda Senior of Danbury, Courtley Morits and her husband Scott of New Fairfield, Amanda Mertz and her husband Matthew of Richmond, Va., and Lindsay Glynn and her husband James of Danbury; 12 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; a sister -in-law, Dorothy Schweitzer of Shelton; and a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Mary and John Layok of Danbury. She was predeceased by five brothers and five sisters.
The Cornell Memorial Home of Danbury was in charge of arrangements.
