Alexander Broich was appointed president of international at Cengage Learning, based in Stamford. Beginning July 1, he will be based in the company's Boston office and will serve on the executive team reporting to Michael Hansen, chief executive officer. Broich joins Cengage Learning from Pearson Clinical and Talent Assessment, where he was president of international since 2008. Earlier in his career, Broich was the senior vice president of corporate development at Bertelsmann for six years where he implemented development strategies in China, England, Germany and France, among other duties. He also held management positions with Bertelsmann Online, Health Online Services Multimedica, Bertelsmann and Headwork Consulting. He holds a PhD in Business Administration from Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich.
Kerry Breitbart, founder and CEO of North American Power, was named a finalist in the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year 2013 Awards in the New York region. The awards program recognizes high-growth entrepreneurs. After undergoing an application and interview process, finalists are selected by a panel of independent judges. At North American Power, Breitbart has increased revenue from $25 million in 2010 to $165 million in 2012; started a customer referral model that delivers cash rewards for sharing the company's sustainable energy products; and created a social responsibility model, Mission to Millions, that donates more than $50,000 per month to deserving charities.
Christopher DeLaura and Ashley Schexnaildre have been given new positions at Westport Resources, an independent investment and financial planning firm. DeLaura was promoted to chief operating officer of its wealth management division, the Private Client Group. Schexnaildre joined the company as controller of Westport Resources Management, which includes the Private Client Group, and its broker/dealer division, Westport Resources Investment Services. DeLaura joined Westport Resources in 2010 as a financial planning specialist in the Private Client Group. Prior to joining Westport Resources, DeLaura worked at UBS for 13 years in the corporate offices on strategy and different technologies. He worked with and managed assets for high net worth individuals. DeLaura earned his bachelor of science degree from New York University. Schexnaildre joined Westport Resources on April 1. He was interim controller for M6 Partners/Capital Lodging, a $50 million portfolio company in North Dakota. At the same time, he was controller for that company's owner, Commonwealth Advisors, a $200 million RIA and $30 million hedge fund in Baton Rouge, La. Schexnaildre is a licensed certified public sccountant and a Level II CFA candidate. He holds a master of science degree in accounting from University of Virginia and a bachelor of science degree in finance from Providence College. He also taught corporate finance at Louisiana State University.
