"It is my hope that adults and children of all ages from around the community will attend the event and take with them the information they need for proper health care awareness," Bartlett said. "After working on health-care issues in the state legislature I realized just how important it is to receive preventative care and to have the right information about all the available services in our region."
Andrea Rynn, a spokeswoman for Danbury Hospital, said they will provide information on nutrition and weight loss, child immunizations and discuss the early prevention of breast cancer. Screenings will also be available for cardiac disease and stroke.
Judy Marlin, executive director of the Bethel VNA, said nurses will be on hand to provide blood pressure screenings and tests that can indicate cardiac or respiratory issues.
"Any time we can make people more aware of the services offered in the region and proper preventative care is a good thing," she said. "Often people don't think about what services are available until a crisis strikes and they have to make some hard decisions. Already having the information handy can make the situation a lot easier."
Laura Vasile, director of health for Bethel, said more fairs may be held in the future if Saturday's event is successful. She said the emergency preparedness educator will be offering emergency family communication plans, home supply check lists, medication wallet cards and a host of other information that would be useful in a public health emergency. Information will also be provided on how to care for pets during an emergency situation.
"For those who attend the fair there will be a lot of resources available," Vasile said.
Besides for the typical medical professionals, the fair will also have specialists in naturopathic medicine and gardeners who will provide information about how plants can fit into a healthy lifestyle.
"It should be a well-rounded event with something for everyone," Bartlett said.
The fair will be held at Bethel Middle School, at 600 Whittlesey Drive, on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
