It isn't often that a team is as hot as the Brunswick ice hockey team has been lately. Unbeaten in their last seven games, the Bruins are playing some of their best hockey of the season and continued to do so on Wednesday.
Despite playing a bitter rival in Hoosac, a team that has battled Brunswick in some memorable games in recent years, the Bruins kept their foot on the accelerator, demolishing the Owls 5-1.
"Hoosac always brings a competitive team and we always have good games with them," Brunswick assistant Mike Kennedy said. "But we didn't want to rest on our laurels because we're on a good streak. The kids came to play knowing that on any given day anyone can beat anyone."
One the keys to Brunswick's (10-6-1) success has been the ability to spread the scoring around. That was epitomized against the Owls with five Bruins cracking the scoresheet. Luke Esposito, Toshi Terai, John Kelly, Bo Stafford and Phil Silbereisen accounting for Brunswick's goals.
"It's something we talk about before games," Kennedy said. "We want our opponents to feel like we have three first-lines and can spread it around. And we do believe that we have three even lines."
Hoosac did have its chances, but was turned away by sophomore goalie Gryphon Richardson, who made 26 saves on the day and continues solidify himself as one of the team's leaders despite his age.
"Gryphon is playing great right now," Kennedy said. "He's our general out there talking the whole game letting people know where to be. He's a true hockey player and you don't usually find that in a goaltender."
Kennedy also pointed to the efforts of Connor Koorbusch on defense and Ben Weisbergur as being reasons for the Bruins recent hot streak.

Coming off an impressive showing at this past weekend's Brunswick Invitational Tournament, the Bruins suffered no letdown against Chase Collegiate taking down the Highlanders 58-12.
"We had some real good matchups today," Bruins coach John Martin said. "The guys took care of business."
Brunswick got wins from Chris Barnett (103 pounds), Corey Kupersmith (125), Peter Briggs (130), Cameron Driscoll (140), Matt Wales (145), Alex Marcus (152), Patrick Wales (160), Cliff Simmons (171), Ben Galef (189) and Jack Williams in the heavyweight division.
"That match at 125 pounds though was the highlight match for us," Martin said. "Corey and his opponent Matt Carlson are both juniors and two of the top guys in the area and it was a great match to watch. Nothing really happened in the first period but in the second Corey had a great reversal and rode him down. In the third period Corey had him right from the get go."

There is no doubt losing three games in a row left a bitter taste in the mouth of the Brunswick basketball team. So it came as no surprise that the Bruins, powered by a 16-4 second-half run, took out their frustrations on Hopkins 63-53.
In a physical game marked by 38 fouls and 53 free throws, Brunswick had four players in double figures while forcing 16 Hopkins turnovers.
"This got us off a three game losing streak," Brunswick coach Anthony Fischetti said. "We had balanced scoring and great defense especially from Billy Murphy who had 11 rebounds and four blocks."
Max Barrett lead all Bruins scorers with 13. He was aided by Murphy who pitched in 12 points as did Zach Lynch. Devin Mehra tacked on 11 points, including a pair of 3-pointers.

Following an emotional loss to Holy Child Greenwich Academy struggled to find its energy in Wednesday's matchup with Millbrook and lost 33-24.
"It was just one of those games that we were lacking in energy," Gators coach O'Neil Medley said. "We just weren't there emotionally."
Freshman Galen Hughes lead the Gators with 10 points and Joi Spaulding had five. GA also got contributions from Katherine Stack (four points), Catherine Schmidt (two points), Caroling Vaughn (two points), Alana Schept (two points), and Kira Schott (two points).
Hamden Hall 47, Convent of the Sacred Heart 29: A 12-point halftime deficit proved to be too much for the Tigers Wednesday. Junior Erin Aoyama had 10 second-half points to keep the Tigers in the game, but it was not enough as Hamden Hall's shooting from behind the arc proved to be the difference.
