The equipment rental company that serves the United States and Canada moved from Greenwich Office Park and opened its new offices last week at 100 First Stamford Place, a Malkin Properties holding.

United Rentals is subleasing the space from Legg Mason for 10 years, which remains in 92,000 square feet in the building, said Jeff Newman, executive vice president of Malkin Properties.

First Stamford Place, a three-building complex comprising 810,000 square feet, is 90 percent leased, he said.

Companies are finding Stamford as a good landing place for their headquarters and regional offices, said Laure Aubuchon, the city's economic development director.

United Rentals' arrival confirms the strength of Stamford's business climate and its ability to attract headquarters operations, said Jack Condlin, president and chief executive officer of the Stamford Chamber of Commerce.

Chrysler abruptly agreed to recall 2.7 million older model Jeeps Tuesday, reversing a defiant posture and avoiding a possible public relations nightmare over fuel tanks that can catch fire in a rear-end collision.

In deciding on the recall, Chrysler avoided a showdown with government safety regulators that could have led to public hearings with witnesses giving details of deadly crashes involving the Jeeps.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the agency that monitors vehicle safety, contends that the Jeep's gas tank can rupture if hit from the rear, causing a fire.

NHTSA said a three-year investigation showed that 51 people had died in fiery crashes in Jeeps with gas tanks positioned behind the rear axle.

Hurt by a stagnant European economy, Terex, a Westport-based maker of cranes, trucks and lifts, said it will fail to achieve its 2013 earnings target.

Terex continues to experience replacement demand for aerial work platforms, and its materials processing unit is performing well, but not enough to offset revenue declines in its other areas, according to the company, which has about 15,500 employees at facilities in North America, South America, Europe, Asia and Australia.

Terex is heavily dependent on equipment orders from businesses that process marine shipping at European ports, said Joel Tiss, an analyst with BMO Capital Markets.

Terex, which in April reported first quarter net income fell to $22.3 million from $24.1 million in the year-earlier period, is addressing its cost structure to align it with global demand patterns, said spokesman Thomas Gelston.

With visionary zeal, the 45-year-old former Microsoft manager described his plans to a conference room packed with reporters and supporters last month, saying he was tired of waiting for a green light from the Obama administration, which still hasn't said how it will respond to the legalization of recreational pot in Washington and Colorado.

Though he promised a "cautious and measured" expansion, Shively's approach nevertheless contrasted with that of state regulators who want to avoid repeating the national experience with Big Tobacco and Big Alcohol, industries that profited wildly on addiction and abuse.

Conferences have focused on the parameters for legally investing in "ancillary businesses" -- those that supply equipment needed by pot grows, for example -- without financing the actual production or distribution of marijuana, which remains illegal under federal law.

"Developing a national brand in an industry in which it is illegal to move the core product across state lines presents some serious logistical challenges," said Betty Aldworth, deputy director of the National Cannabis Industry Association.

According to Shively, Diego Pellicer has acquired the option to buy Northwest Patient Resource Center, but does not actually own it.

The deal highlights the tension between the varying degrees of acceptance of marijuana by the states and the outright prohibition by the federal government, which makes banking and other business functions problematic.

[...] it will license its technical know-how and recipes to people in Washington or elsewhere who want to produce products under the Dixie Elixirs brand -- and try to avoid the attention of federal prosecutors by adhering to state laws.

Emcor, the Norwalk-based mechanical and electrical construction company, agreed to acquire RepconStrickland, a service provider to the North American refinery and petrochemical markets, for $455 million, strengthening its presence in the energy sector.

Emcor said Monday it would pay cash to purchase the privately held Texas-based firm, whose majority shareholder is an affiliate of the private equity fund ArcLight Capital Partners.

The RepconStrickland platform encompasses a spectrum of turnaround and specialty services, including shutdowns, overhauls, capital projects, engineering and constructability reviews, project management, welding services and refractory services.

RepconStrickland is positioned to grow through market share expansion of existing refinery customers and capitalizing on capacity expansions in the petrochemical industry, Guzzi said.

General Electric's aircraft leasing division agreed to buy 10 of the largest Boeing 787 Dreamliners valued at about $2.9 billion, a boost for the planemaker's decision to stretch the jet to add seats.

Deliveries would occur from 2019 to 2021, pending final approval at Boeing to offer the model, CEO Norm Liu of GE Capital Aviation Services said Monday at the Paris Air Show.

Boeing won a pledge last month from Singapore Airlines for 30 787-10Xs as the company rebounds from a global grounding of the Dreamliner fleet this year to fix overheating batteries.
